The House of Representatives Committee on Industry yesterday said it was satisfied with the performance of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

Chairman of the committee, Mohammed Onawo, expressed its position during an oversight visit to the ITF area office and the Model Skills Training Centre (MSTC) in Abuja.

He said they were on the oversight duty to assess the extent of implementation of government policies on industrial training fund vis-à-vis its mandate of realising industrial growth and development and also to identify achievements and challenges faced by the Fund.

Onawo, said for Nigeria to build its industrial sector and compete favourably in the global market, there was the urgent need to put serious attention to the development of technical skills, adding that it has become imperative that the country’s human capital acquired the relevant skills, knowledge and values responsive to the changing needs of the industry and community for sustainability and national development.

At the Model Skills Training Centre (MSTC) of the Fund, the committee noted that there was a holistic approach to technical skills development and commended the agency for a job well done while also pledging that it would do everything within its power to ensure that the Fund was not stifled in its efforts to bridge the skills gap in the country more so as it has judiciously applied monies given to it and kept a clean sheet.
