19th AU Summit Holds In Addis Ababa July 16

The 19th Summit of the African Heads of State will hold from July 9 to 16 in Addis Ababa, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Mr Nurudeen Mezni, Spokesperson of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Dr Jean Ping, told NAN Correspondent in Addis Ababa on Monday that the Summit would commence with a two-day meeting of the AU permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) from July 9 to 10.

Mezni said the  PRC metting would be followed by the AU Council of Ministers meeting from July 12 to 13, where the Foreign Ministers would deliberate on the report of the PRC for presentation to the 19th Summit of the Heads of States and Government.

Mezni said the 19th Summit of the African Heads of State and Government would hold from July 15 to 16.

He said one of the key items on the agenda of the Summit was the election of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, the Deputy Chairperson and Commissioners which was deadlocked during the January Summit.

NAN reports that ``Boosting Intra Africa Trade’’, which was the theme of January Summit, was adopted by the Summit to also be the theme of the July Summit.

NAN gathered that the newly elected Presidents of Senegal and Egypt would  be the special guests during the Summit. (NAN)
