A middle-aged man, Robert Anyanwu of Onunwankwo, Umuhuali community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is now in police net for allegedly killing his step-son for revealing to his mother plot by him to murder her.
Anyanwu, 45, was alleged to have slaughtered his step son, Chigozie Anyanwu, a seven-year old primary one pupil, for daring to expose his evil intentions.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sylvester Igbo, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) confirmed the incident, when contacted by our reporter.
“It is confirmed that a man killed his son, it is a confirmed story,” he said and noted that the police were investigating the matter.
Sources from Umuhuali community revealed that Anyanwu, on June 15, 2012, hacked the boy down with a machete on their road to the farm and buried him in a shallow grave in the forest.
The source noted that Anyanwu had, prior to the incident, confided in the boy that he was going to kill his mother within the week for undisclosed offences.
Robert warned the boy against revealing the information to anybody, especially his mother.
But the boy out of fear of being made motherless by his step-father revealed the secret to his mother in a closed door, unaware that his step-father was eavesdropping on them.
A reliable source told our reported that, “ after the little boy had let the cat out of the bag, Anyanwu chased his wife away from the compound and then asked the boy and his younger sister (Anyanwu ‘s biological child) to accompany him to the farm”.
It was gathered that on their way to the farm, Robert raised his machete and hacked down Master Chigozie.
Thereafter, he carried the boy’s lifeless body into the forest as the little girl ran into the bush petrified and was only able to trace her path to their house the next day.
She narrated the incident to her mother who alerted neighbours who in turn searched and arrested Anyanwu and also discovered his machete with blood stains.
However, a close relation of Anyanwu pleaded with the villagers to release him (Anyanwu) so that he could find out what happened and how to recover the body of the deceased.
Curiously, he escaped for days but was later re-arrested by the vigilante group of the community and handed over to the police, who forced him to lead them to where he buried the already decomposing remains of the little boy.
