In a morale-boosting declaration to Nigerians disillusioned about the future of the country by increasing insecurity, the chief of army staff, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika yesterday assured that the Nigerian Army is ready to pay the supreme sacrifice to continue to keep the country as one united entity.

At an interactive session with army ex-servicemen in Jaji, Kaduna State, Ihejirika said: “We should forget about any talk of Nigeria breaking up as the army will not agree to that.”

He reminded Nigerians that the army has been at the fore front of all efforts to keep the country together since independence and assured that it was as determined as ever to maintain the cause.

The COAS described those suggesting the break-up of Nigeria as day dreamers who don’t have the interest of the country at heart.Ihejirika revealed the army’s response to future challenges which include establishing additional units in line with ORBAT 2010, Special Forces Brigade and army aviation among other new advance in army transformation.

He paid tribute to the professionalism of the veterans and commended retired officers for striving within their meagre means to keep the association for retired officers going.
