The Nigerian Telecommunications Commission (NCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC),as part of efforts to ensure consumers protection and satisfaction with service quality.
The Executive Vice Chairman NCC, Mr. Eugene Juwah at the inauguration in Abuja of a joint committee with the NLRC stated that the commission had observed that lottery was a tool used by service providers to retain their customer.
Juwah who was represented by Mr. Okechukwu Itanyi from the commission stated that, “as competition becomes stiffer in the telecommunications industry, service providers consistently devise new ways of attracting new customers and retaining old ones within their networks. We have observed that promotions and lotteries have become prominent tools used by the service providers to delight their teeming subscribers.”
He also said that in the commission’s bid to sanitise the industry, it had published specific guidelines on advertisements and promotions adding that “the MoU with NLRC was added to this list with a view to ensuring that consumers are adequately protected and remain the kings in the industry.”
