Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam has approved the release of N75 million in order to create more employment opportunities for the youths in the state, through the State Youth Empowerment Programme, in addition to another N35 million for improved irrigation farming.
Gaidam revealed this yesterday while launching the sales of a total of 17,500 metric tonnes of fertiliser, procured by the state government at the cost of N1.5 billion for sales to farmers in the state, pointing out that each of the 178 electoral wards in the state had been allocated 300 bags made up of 150 bags of NPK and 150 bags of Urea.
He also approved the sales of the fertiliser to farmers at a subsidised rate of N1,900 for Urea and N2,000 for NPK, at a discount of about 66 percent of the original price.
Gaidam therefore called on the Fertiliser Distribution Committees in each of the 17 local government areas of the state to swing into action to ensure early and quick distribution of the commodity. He also charged them to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability in the distribution of the commodity.
The governor added that they should be honest in the remittance of the proceeds from the sales of the fertiliser to the coffers of the state government.
On the State Youth Empowerment Programme, Gaidam said the sum of N25 million had been approved to cover the activities of the programme in each of the three Farm Centres in the three senatorial districts in the state, making a total of N75m.
