Legislators elected to the National Assembly on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) would kick against any constitutional amendment aimed at supporting a single tenure for the president and the governors of the 36 states.

The National chairman of ACN, Chief Bisi Akande said this in Ibadan on while speaking with reporters after the retreat of National Working Committee of the party.
Chief Akande pointed out that the proposed amendment was deceptively self-serving and a terrible misadventure, warning that it was like putting the cart before the horse.

The Chairman assured that all the ACN legislators would team up with other progressives to throw out the bill anytime it was sent to the National Assembly.
Earlier in his welcome address, Chief Akande reiterated his call and that of his party for the theory and practice of federalism.

He observed that federalism was a most complicated system of government that was generally avoided and unwanted by most polity all over the world, adding “no country wants to adopt federalism as a system of government unless it becomes difficult and impossible to govern”

The National Secretary of the party, Senator Lawal Shuaibu stated that the NWC of ACN was a veritable organ with clearly defined powers and functions in the party constitution.

“Notwithstanding these powers however, I noticed that the NWC has not been as proactive as expected”, he noted.

Senator Shuaibu observed that this has resulted in ACN mobility to avail itself the wide wisdom and experience of its NWC members in charting a way forward, adding that the retreat would take care of the shortcoming.
