INEC Takes Delivery Of Materials For Edo Governorship Election

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Edo, Malam Kassim Gaidam, said  on Thursday that INEC had taken delivery of election materials for the July 14 governorship election in the state.

 The commissioner made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN in Benin.

 Gaidam told NAN that  the commission on Wednesday took delivery of the sensitive materials with the leadership of  the seven political parties contesting the elections present at the time.

 Kassim said the materials were immediately taken to the branch of  Central Bank of Nigeria for protective custody.

He gave the assurance that the commission would comply with electoral laws in conducting the forth-coming governorship poll in the state.

Gaidam warned all INEC and ad hoc staff against circumventing the electoral process as anyone caught would be prosecuted by the law enforcement agents.

Meanwhile, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, will meet with stakeholders on the election on Friday, the Public Affairs Officer of the commission in the state,  Mrs Priscilla Imodu-Sule, said.  

Imodu-Sule said the meeting would deliberate of some grey areas about the poll. (NAN)
