The Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Issa Aremu has attributed the high level insecurity in some parts of the country to the abandonment of development agenda and its replacement with corruption and selfish agenda.

He said that these have resulted in ethnic and religious manipulations.

He, however, called on the government to reinvent development  in order to rebuild industries and reemploy the army of unemployed youths.

“We commend the effort of the Kaduna State government to restore peace in Kaduna State.  We urge the governor, Sir Patrick Yakowa, to build on this effort and make peace sustainable.  To do this, the governor must be more proactive.  Kaduna State already had its fair share of avoidable violence and communal “religious” violence right from 1987.

“We should say ‘never again’ to violence in Kaduna State.  One more violence is capable of destroying the whole state. Kaduna is the home of commerce and industry as well as investment/employment destination for all Nigerians and foreigners”.
Comrade Aremu also assured government of the cooperation of all the stakeholders, including labour, for sustainable peace in the state.

“There should be incentive for those who maintain peace and sanction for those who perpetrate violence.  That is the act of good governance.

“The long term solution is to return Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole to the path of peace, development and prosperity,” he said.
