The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has said that the success of Governor Adams Oshiomhole in last Saturday’s Edo State gubernatorial election was a victory to both workers and the masses in the state.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the President of the union, Peter Esele and General Secretary, John Kolawole in Lagos, yesterday .
TUC while congratulating Oshiomhole on his overwhelming victory noted that his victory was not for Edo people alone but the generality of downtrodden people of Nigeria especially the impoverished and deprived workers of Nigeria .
Esele said, “The election and its outcome signposts the entrenchment of good governance in Edo State and a deep determination of the people to rid themselves permanently of the remaining vestiges of backwardness and underdevelopment”.
TUC said the election was a warning to all agents of impoverishment that are still dwelling in illusion across the country that their days of impunity are gradually coming to an end and that sooner than later, the will of the people would overwhelm them.
“It is either they change or they get thrown into the refuse bin of history where they rightly belong. We want the Governor to see it as a renewed opportunity to further raise the bar of good governance not only in his state but also in Nigeria . The good work must continue and the light must continue shining and all Nigerian workers will continue basking in it even as he leads the way”, they said.
TUC also used the opportunity to commend the efforts of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting an election that was generally acceptable to the peoples of Edo State and entire Nigerians.
The union also extends the commendation to the security agencies and President Goodluck Jonathan for the good job done during the election.
