A landlady, Hajia Zainab Muhammad was on Tuesday arraigned before an Abuja Magistrates’ Court for conspiracy, assault and cheating.

The police prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the Court that on July 13, one, Miss Oby Ijeh reported the case to Utako Police Station.

Ibrahim said the accused had fraudulently collected N440,000 from the complainant as rent for a one-room apartment in April this year, but ordered her to move out on July 12 without getting a refund.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused also brought three men, now at large, to beat up the complainant as a result of which she sustained injuries.

He also said that Muhammad had locked the entrance of the apartment located at No. 11, Ebitu Ukiwe Street, Jabi, Abuja, thereby depriving the complainant access to it for four days.

The action according to the prosecutor contravened section 79, 267 and 322 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Musa Jobbo granted her bail on self recognition, saying ``you must undertake by bond to appear regularly for the trial of this case.''

Jobbo adjourned the case to July 27, for hearing.
