2 Bank Officials Arraigned For Allegedly Stealing N4.9m

Two officials  of  Guaranty Trust Bank in Ibadan were on Thursday arraigned before an Ibadan Chief  Magistrates’  Court for allegedly stealing  N4.9 million.

The two officials-Quadri Azeez and  Oluwatayo Tosin-were arraigned  for  forgery and stealing.

A third accused, Awotunde Oluwafemi,  who was said to be the recipient of the stolen sum, was also arraigned for  forgery and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Ogunremi,  claimed that  Azeez and Tosin forged   the bank’s  local currency fund transfer instrument with different  serial numbers to collect  the  total sum between July  21, 2011 and Dec. 2, 2011.

Ogunremi said the offences  contravened  Section 516,467,427and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Sofiat Oyediran granted the accused bail in the sum of   N1million each with two sureties in like sum.

Oyediran, who said one of the sureties must have a  certificate of occupancy  while the other  must be a civil servant on no lower than Grade Level 07,  adjourned the case to Aug. 2.
