Dr Wole Adetimehin, the President, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), said on Friday that the new Nigeria Insurance Industry Database (NIID) would eradicate fake vehicle insurance certificates.
Adetimehin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the initiative, introduced by the Nigeria Insurance Association (NIA), would make it easier for the association to verify the validity and authenticity of any vehicle insurance particulars.
“I think with this, the usage of fake vehicle insurance documents would be reduced to the barest minimum or completely wiped out.”
Adetimehin said that such an idea would also restore the society’s confidence in the insurance industry.
According to him, in the event of any unforeseen circumstance during transit, the travellers’ interest would be protected.
Adetimehin said that NIA was currently collaborating with law enforcement agencies and Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIO) to ensure the effectiveness of the initiative.
He said that the initiative would ease the work of the VIO in checking vehicles’ documents on the road.
“It is a good initiative by the association, but being a new idea, it will take some time for its impact to be felt.'' (NAN)
