Workers at the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) are having busy periods due to heavy traffic of job seekers who throng the commission to collect and to submit their job applications forms.
Our correspondent, who visited the commission on Thursday observed that the commission was experiencing an unprecedented inflow of job seekers, who were mainly fresh graduates from the various states of the federation, an indication that the N18,000 minimum wage has greatly improved graduates tendency to seek government jobs.
One of the job seekers at the commission’s Delta State collection office, Mudi Akpoborie, told LEADERSHIP that he came all the way from Abraka in Delta State to the FCSC’s headquarters in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, to collect job application form.
“I am not sure if I will get the job at the end of the day, but as you know, there’s no harm in trying,” Akpoborie told our correspondent on Thursday.
Most of the job seekers believed to be graduates despatched from the recent batch of the NYSC, who have just completed their service year, are in their late and mid twenties.
A staffer of the commission, who asked not to be mentioned because she was not in the position to speak with journalists, said although there was no definite information that the government might recruit soon, it was only normal that anyone who wished to work in the civil service obtained and submitted job application forms with relevant documents, just in case any recruitment exercise commenced.
She however, affirmed that the civil service commission had not had a rush such as this in the past.
“But we have not had it so busy like this in the past. There has been so many job seekers coming to obtain or submit their job forms, especially in the last few weeks,” she said, jokingly adding, “May be it’s because of the new minimum wage.”
She explained that to collect the forms, an applicant must provide for sighting, his original certificate of local government of origin, obtained from his local government, original copy of his educational certificate and birth certificate.
According to her, the application forms are to be submitted with two photocopies each of same documents, curriculum vitae and five other documents.
