Nemesis has caught up with the leader of a five man robbery syndicate at Monatan area of Ibadan when  he received bullet wounds in some parts of his body during a robbery mission.

LEADERSHIP was reliably informed yesterday that four members of his gang escaped from the scene of the robbery.

Sources said that the robbers laid ambush at Monatan area where they intercepted a private car owner who after he was flagged down, promised to cooperate with them.

The driver of the car was blocked by the robbers who used their Mazda car with Lagos registration number to obstruct the movement of the car owner.

LEADERSHIP exclusively learnt that the robbers asked him to either submit the ignition key of his car or lose his life.

The owner of the car who is a police officer in mufti,  pretended as if he was loosening his seat belt pleading with the robbers to be patient with him.

He  cleverly pulled out his pistol and  at a close range, shot the leader of the gang several times who cried and slumped down to the apprehension of his colleagues , sources added.

The police officer adopted other strategy  to confuse the remaining members of the robbery gang who fled the scene seeing  what has become of their leader.

LEADERSHIP further gathered that the officer phoned his colleagues who rushed to the scene and apprehended the injured robbery suspect that  has received bullet wounds on his chest  and leg. The injured robbery suspect has been taken to an undisclosed hospital in the state capital.

The officers combed the surroundings with a view to apprehending the remaining members of the robbery gang who are still at large.

Efforts to speak with the wounded  suspect proved abortive and the police declined further comments until the remaining suspects were arrested.

LEADERSHIP confirmed that the case has been reported at the state force head quarters and state  special anti robbery squad  for further investigation.
