No fewer than 14 members of various secret cult groups were on Sunday apprehended in Iree, Boripe local government area of Osun State, after attending a secret meeting at the instance of a notorious cult group at the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.

The cult members had converged on Iree for an undisclosed operation when they were arrested by a combined team of paramilitary organisations operating in the institution.

Dangerous weapons such as guns, cutlasses, axes, and charms were recovered from the suspected cultists.

It was learnt that the suspects came from different institutions for an undisclosed operation and a stakeholders meeting at the institution.

The media relations officer of the polytechnic, Mr. Tope Abiola, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said that the suspects were nabbed by a combined team of paramilitary and community vigilante groups.

The suspects, according to him were suspected to be members of the Axe Men Confraternity (AYEE), adding that the suspects had since been handed over to the state Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for interrogation.

Abiola however failed to reveal the identities of the suspects, saying the management of the institution was yet to ascertain their studentship.

When contacted, the state police public relations officer, (PPRO), Olumide Taiwo Olugbemileke, confirmed the arrest, saying that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
