The President, Society of Youth in Agriculture (SYA), Comrade Oladimeji Bakare, has said that the youths should look beyond their paper quailifications and engage in agriculture in order to contribute to the economic development of the country.
He made this statement when he led a team of the organisation on a courtesy visit to the headquarters of LEADERSHIP Newspaper group, Abuja.
Bakare said the organisation was established to conscientise the youth on agriculture, educate them, and equally provide them with necessary support services so as to ‘‘ensure massive youth participation in agriculture being a panacea for food and nutrition security, employment generation, poverty eradication, wealth creation and value re-orientation.’’
The programme of SYA, according to Bakare, include advancing a massive campaigns to encourage the youth to participate in agriculture, encourage the working class and elite youth to invest in agriculture and encourage schools to re-visit school farming among other things
Responding, Editor of LEADERSHIP Newspaper, Suleiman Uba Gaya, commended the organisation for the step it has taken, and said that it would go a long way in solving the problem of youth unemployment and boost the country’s agricultural sector.
He, however, pledged the assistance of the newspaper in efforts to encourage the youths to be involved in agricultural activities.
The SYA nominated Mr Sam Nda-Ishaiah, Chairman/Editor-in-Chief, LEADERSHIP Newspaper Group as member of its board of trustees.
