A Senior Magistrates’ Court in Akure, Ondo State, has ordered that three security guards be remanded in prison following a murder allegation brought against them by the police.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Charity Aedtiloye, ordered that Umoru Saliu Dogo, 30, Usman Oseni, 35 and Yisa Sule, 30, be remanded at Olokuta Medium security prison for the alleged crime.
The First Information Report (FIR) stated that accused committed the offence on July 12, 2011, at about 1.00 am at Ayeka in Okitipupa local government area.
According to the report, he accused killed one Michael Salako, 25, by shooting him with a locally made single-barrel gun.
The offence, according to police prosecutor, Ayodele Atandeyi, is contrary to, and punishable under sections of Ondo State laws.
When the charge was read and translated to them in Yoruba language, the accused told the court that they understood the charge.
They were not, however, represented by any counsel and the court did not take their plea.
The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the accused pending the advice of the director of public prosecution in the state.
In her ruling, Mrs Adeyanju Adetiloye held that her court had no jurisdiction to entertain the matter as it is was culpable homicide case, punishable with death, and adjourned the matter till Oct. 28. (NAN)
