The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has assured that it would continue to co-operate and assist the newly inaugurated Inter-agency Maritime Coordinating Committee (IMOCC), which mandate is to bring to an end the widespread stealing of crude oil in the nation’s waters.

Receiving a delegation of the committee yesterday in his office at the NPA Headquarters, Marina Lagos, the Authority’s managing director, Malam Habib Abdullahi said the port management authority would leave no stone unturned in helping the committee to achieve a seamless synergy in inter-agency maritime operation.

Abdullahi, who took up the baton of management last week explained that the synergy would ensure a cordial relationship among all the agencies and would enable a common platform for the government agencies to harness expertise towards ending the oil theft menace, in which the country is said to be losing over 150,000 barrels daily.

Malam Abdullahi who commended the activities of the IMOCC in the nation’s maritime sector, however reiterated the urgent need for capacity building in the nation’s maritime sector, saying that there was need to design succession plan.
