The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has faulted a report in a national newspaper (not LEADERSHIP) that susggested that the commission had suspended the arraignment of marketers involved in the alleged subsidy fraud.
The newspaper had claimed that the EFCC had put further arraignment of the oil marketers on hold due to political pressure.
But the commission has, in a statement by its Acting Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, stated that the agency viewed the suggestion as a distasteful misrepresentation of the reality on ground.
In the statement dated August 7, which was made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, the EFCC added that it had stated before the commencement of the trial that the suspects would be arraigned in batches, saying that it had not departed from the direction.
It also denied there was political pressure to suspend the arraignment, explaining that the commission only slowed down as the Lagos High Court and other courts were on recess, and would resume once the court reopen for business.
