Captain of Team Nigeria, Chika Chukwumerije who won bronze at the last Olympics in Beijing, China will fight Roberlis Despaigne of Cuba on the 11th. The draw held on Monday evening pitched the medal hopeful against the Cuban whom experts say is also good in the sport. Chukwumerije will fight in the men 80+kg.
His other Nigerian compatriot, Isa Mohammed who is also carrying the burden of the entire nation in the Taekwondo event of the London Olympics will fight a Jordanian.
Chukwumerije would begin his quest on Saturday against the fourth seeded Cuban, who is the 2011 World University Championship champion while Isa will fight tomorrow against Abulibdeh Mohammed of Jordan. Both fights will take place at the EXCEL South Arena 1 of the Olympic Stadium. Isah’s fight is slated for 11.15 am. He will compete in the 68kg category.
