Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN), Lagos Branch, and Labour Correspondents Association of Nigeria (LACAN), Abuja, has described the victory of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State Governor at the poll recently as a victory for the masses who the Comrade Governor represents.

The Labour Writers in a separate statement in Abuja and Lagos signed by Soji Fagbemi and Victor Young respectively also congratulated Governor Oshiomhole for his performance and developmental initiatives since he began his stewardship in Edo State four years ago.

The groups also commended the people of Edo State for believing in the governor and for giving him the support and trust to continue his efforts at making Edo State the heart beat of the nation in the real sense of it.

“The overwhelming victory of Governor Oshiomhole is a total approval and appreciation for his development politics as against individualistic politics of the past.  The landslide victory of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is a testimony to his developmental initiatives that have brought about rapid transformation of Edo State, especially in areas of road construction, rural electrification, potable water, health care delivery and re-invention of public institutions, especially schools,” they wrote.

The two bodies praised the people of Edo State for voting for development and good governance, and President Goodluck Jonathan for being a father of the nation by ensuring that the votes of Edo people counted despite the obvious pressures to do otherwise.

“We also want to commend the security agencies such as the soldiers, State Security Service, the Police and others for keeping riggers and trouble makers in check.

“In spite of the initial flaws, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was able to conduct an election that is generally acceptable to the people of Edo State, Nigeria and the international community at large. We also commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other civil society group for the support shown to ensure the election is free, fair and credible,” the groups further said.

The group urged the governor to see this total support and approval by Edo people as a fresh opportunity to double his efforts in the development of the state to make it a reference point for good governance and development in the country.
