Agency Laments Low Funding, Seeks PPP Initiatives

The Director of Vocational Skill Development of the National Directorate of Employment, [NDE] Mrs Victoria Awosemo, said the directorate would have recorded tremendous growth if budgetary allocation to the agency is reviewed upward, even as she called for private sector participation.

Mrs Awosemo, disclosed this while speaking at the National Workshop for Vocational Skills Development Officers, South-South zone, tagged ‘Skills Acquisition Training in An Ever Changing Environment’ held in Benin City, Edo State capital.

She however solicit for private, states and local governments partnership for maximum output of the agency adding that the workshop which is an annual event is aimed at updating the skills and knowledge of officers

“We are doing a lot in the 36 states and the federal capital territory but the directorate cannot do it alone. So we need partnership and collaboration from private sector, state government and local government so that the impact of the directorate can get to the grassroots,’’ she said.

Meanwhile, Edo State government pledged to collaborate with the directorate in encouraging and empowering trainees to become entrepreneurs.
