The Enugu State Police Command has advised people with useful information on the abducted Vice-Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Professor Cyprain Onyeji, to divulge such information to the police instead of relatives of the victim.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP yesterday, the Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, said the advice became necessary following the involvement of some people in the abduction of their relatives in the past.
According to him, to avoid disclosing information to wrong people or accomplices, people should furnish the police with any information that might lead to the rescue of the victim.
He, however, urged family members of the kidnap victim not to entertain fear, assuring that the university don would soon be rescued.
Amaraizu assured that detectives were working hard to ensure that the captive was released alive, asking his relatives not to panic, as the police were on top of the situation.
It would be recalled that heavily armed men ambushed and abducted the ESUT VC and wounded three policemen at the main gate of the university in Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State last week.
An eyewitness said the incident occurred at 11.30 am when Prof. Onyeji was driving in his official car into the campus with his police escort driving behind him.
