The Sokoto State Government has spent over N450 million as subsidy on accommodation for the state’s pilgrims this year.
The Chairman of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Walfare Board (SSPWB), Alhaji Muktari Bello, announced this while conducting the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Lawal Zayyana, and other government officials round the houses secured for the 2012 pilgrims in Mecca.
Alhaji Maigona, who is the Treasurer of the PDP in Sokoto, said that in the past, six houses were secured to accommodate the entire state pilgrims in Mecca. He said the house has provision for clinic and kitchen.
In his response, Alhaji Zayyana expressed satisfaction at the accommodation secured, pointing out that it would enable pilgrims to perform their acts of worship effectively, describing the facilities as standard.
He therefore, commmended the state government for its commitment to the welfare of the state’s pilgrims at home and in the holy land.
