The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will today host the second phase of sectoral workshops aimed at co-coordinating the implementation of the Nigerian In formation Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) Plan in Nigerian.

The plan was developed by National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

The plan, according to a statement made available to LEADERSHIP by the head corporate affairs NITDA, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, was in line with the implementation of the approved plan of action of the Geneva phase of the WSIS which has been adjudged as the best in sub Saharan Africa.

It noted that the plan was scheduled to serve as a reference point and a framework for implementing short to medium term ICT programmes targeted at achieving sustainable socio-economic development and a knowledge-based economy in Nigeria.

“It was formally presented to the public by Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR) at the e-Nigeria 2010 Summit which directed all MDAs to commence immediate implementation of areas relevant to their mandates.

“The co-ordination of the implementation Process of the Nigerian ICT4D Plan is for the creation of the requisite awareness and ownership platform for the implementation of actionable programmes and activities in identified critical areas of our national development,” it added.

It should be rtecalled that the first phase of the sectorial workshops was held in February, 2010, covering the Agricultural, Education, Health and sectors
