There was a show of shame yesterday at the Gombe State Government House as a police officer and a State Security Service (SSS) official exchanged blows before politicians and staff of the Government House over who succeeds Suleiman Madigawa as chief security officer (CSO) to the governor.

A superintendent of police, Madigawa, was the CSO to the former governor of the state, Alhaji Muhammad Danjuma Goje. It is believed that Madigawa must have been withdrawn from the Government House following the exit of Goje.

Journalists who witnessed the shameful episode gathered that a superior police officer, whose name could not be ascertained at the time of the scandal, was already on ground waiting to take over from the former CSO.

While this officer was patiently waiting at the old Banquet Hall, the temporary office of the new governor, an SSS official suddenly emerged and presented himself as successor to Madigawa.

The situation became charged and an argument ensued between the two security officials. This was followed by exchange of blows. It took some politicians several minutes to disengage the security men.

It was gathered that CSOs to the governor were traditionally drawn from the police force and not the SSS.

At press time, the issue was yet to be resolved. The exchange of blows took place while the Governor Dankwambo was in his office and had no knowledge of the episode.
However some politicians besieging the governor’s temporary office to seek appointments witnessed the ugly episode. They said they were amazed and disappointed.
