Submitted by LEADERSHIP EDITORS on August 17, 2011 - 1:57am

At least six persons were killed during an attack by suspected Boko Haram members in Tambuwal Local Government Council of Sokoto State.

Tambuwal, the hometown of the Speaker House Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, was Monday thrown into confusion at about 7.20 pm when the Muslim faithful were breaking their Ramadan fast.

Speaking to our correspondent in his office, the council Chairman, Alhaji Sambo Bello, described the attack as shocking in the history of the council. He, however, said that four policemen and two civilians lost their lives in the incident.

It would be recalled that the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III had called on Boko Haram to embrace dialogue as a way of resolving the crisis.
When LEADERSHIP visited Tambuwal Local Government Area which was one and half hours drive to the state capital, a few persons were seen walking the streets.

Our correspondent, who also visited the Tambuwal Police Head Quarters to ascertain the situation, had his camera seized by one of the police officers.
The chairman of the council said the body of the four policemen and two others have been evacuated by the police.

But Bello urged his people not to panic as the situation had been brought under control.

Also, the district head of Tambuwal, Mainasara Sa’ad Attahiru appealed for calm.

The state Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, yesterday also expressed shock over the incident just as he appealed to the people to go about their normal activities.
Meanwhile, not less than four persons were feared killed in Jos yesterday at different flash points in the neighborhoods.

Among those killed was a student whose name was given as Tony Ojukwu who came to Jos to write his post Jamb examination at the University of Jos, while two died at Gero village in Jos South LGC and the fourth victim was killed at Angwan-Rukuba neighborhood all in Jos North Local Government Council.

The visit by the deputy governor also led to the discovery of another corpse in a maize farm early yesterday close to the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Heipang.

This development further sparked off feelings of hatred in the community, especially when the District Head of the area, Da Gwom Rwei Heipang, Da Phelix Pam Tok said three members of the vigilante group were also killed.

Also, residents of Heipang, Barkin Ladi LGC, has made a strong call for the withdrawal of the members of the special task force STF on Jos crisis following the killing of seven members of a family in the area in the latest violence that broke out early Monday.
