The Commissioner of Police, Mr Simeon Midenda, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri that Yarami was shot dead by unknown gunmen at his Bulabulin Ngarnam residence on Sunday night.
“The killers got information about his coming to Maiduguri so they followed him to his house in the evening. They pretended to be his guests and asked for permission to see him,” he said.
The police boss added that the killers opened fire on him immediately and left him in a pool of his blood.
“It was much later that his neighbours raised an alarm, but the killers had already fled,’’ Midenda said, and added that the police had already started investigations into the killing.
“We are already working on some clues and we believe we will be able to unmask the killers in a very short while,” he said.
