The present romance between OBJ and Charlyboy has become a major discourse on the print media. However, the recent visit of Baba to the famous Punk Palace has stated the obvious about their relationship.
Recalling his comments on his realisation and unearthing of the true identity of the man behind the Charlyboy brand, the former president of the federal Republic in his usual presidential swag has put up an “had I known” comment on his past relationship with Charlyboy. He not only faulted himself on the several wrong notions and misconceptions held as regards the Charlyboy brand, but has having realised the true Charles behind Charlyboy, freely offered himself as a father to the enigmatic Area Fada.
OBJ, who referred to Charlyboy as a decent son who listens to his parents, thanked Gloria Iweka for bringing him and Charlyboy together. He appreciated Iweka, his former special adviser for clearing his doubts and misconceptions about Charlyboy. His overwhelming appreciation stems from the fact that Charly boy; irrespective of the razzmatazz, is a family man with lots of family values and responsibilities.
Ironically, Baba saw a man who may not want to be anything like “Charlyboy”. A man who has kept to a single wife for over thirty five years of ups and downs; a man who believes in bringing up his children in the right way, totally different from the expectations of the general public; a man whose responsibilities to parents and relatives are beyond the ordinary. For these reasons, OBJ would not only leave Charlyboy as a friend’s son, but also as a son.
Obasanjo, who had promised to be of help to the Charlyboy brand any time he is called upon, also promised to support the selfless and humanitarian service of the brand especially towards the success of the 2011 edition of the Charlyboy Show-Live, where creative youths will be empowered. OBJ will be locking horns with Justice Oputa at the Charlyboy show live in a comedy ring which the organizers have tagged “Battle of the elder statesmen”.
