Director General, National Sports Commission, Chief Patrick Ekeji yesterday held a crucial meeting with eggheads of the boxing federation at the ongoing 10th All Africa Games, in Maputo, Mozambique. The meeting became necessary LEADERSHIP SPORTS findings revealed following the exit of two of the five boxers Nigeria paraded at the continental games.
Boxing had hitherto been one of the sports that Nigeria bank on for medals. It has on some occasions shot Nigeria into global reckoning but at the moment struggling to remain afloat.
The meeting held between the four boxing coaches, NBF officials and technical expert attached to the federation, Prof. Emmanuel Ojeme, was aimed at ensuring that the boxers still in contention win medals for the country.”The director general believes the remaining boxers should be able to win Nigeria medals. And so does not want to leave any stone unturned in order to achieve that which is why he called for the very important meeting. He has also discovered that the boxing camp does not have an arrow head who drives others for utmost result and needs to have one reliable person to be in charge. At the end of the meeting, Team Nigeria boxing camp will have a more credible person to be in command. A source within the federation told LEADERSHIP SPORTS.
Ademuyiwa Kehinde, Ganiyu Muyideen and Akanji Muyideen are the medals hopefuls remaining.
