The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Niger State Chapter, has faulted the claim of Middle Belt Youth Forum, that General Mohammed Buhari (rtd) won the 2011 presidential election in the state because Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu betrayed President Goodluck Jonathan.
In a press statement by the chairman of the party Umar Shuaibu at the weekend in Minna it said that the victory was beyond the Governor as it was the wish of the people.
CPC boss said that though the forum’s stance was part of the fallout of Governor Aliyu’s ‘revelation’ that President Jonathan signed an agreement to contest for only a single term, it was obvious that his (Aliyu’s) antagonists in the PDP working for the President were using the 2011 presidential election result against him.
He said that the party would not allow any body to gain cheap popularity from General Buhari’s teeming supporters and insisted that Buhari got the victory he deserved in Niger state.
“We strongly admonish the so-called Middle Belt Youth Forum to desist from using the CPC achievement in Niger State as a weapon to settle political scores in the increasingly deepening internal discord in the PDP” the Chairman stated.
He recalled that despite the antics of the PDP then in Niger state, the CPC got the victory in the presidential election overwhelmingly, an indication that the subsequent elections the PDP won in the state were allegedly rigged.
“Looking at the result as issued by no other than the electoral umpire, INEC, General Buhari’s CPC garnered more than double what President Jonathan’s PDP scored” and maintained that only rigging could have made PDP win subsequent elections in the state.
