Leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) across the three Senatorial districts of Edo State have thrown their weight behind Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for the 2012 gubernatorial elections in the state.

At an enlarged meeting of the party leaders in Benin City on Saturday, chairman of the party, Thomas Okosun, set the ball rolling when he listed the achievements of the party under the administration of the Comrade Governor.

According to him, the ACN recorded impressive victories at the last general elections, and “the man who saw to our victory in the last elections was no other person than the Comrade Governor himself.

“Now the dance of the masquerade is around the corner - that is the governorship election itself. If this man could work for each and every one of us that today - we have two senators, seven members of the House of Representatives and 19 members of the House of Assembly, it therefore means that we have a challenge that we must resolve to return the Comrade Governor in the next election.”

Other speakers who took the floor after the party chairman also toed the same line and lent their support to the candidature of the governor.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, in his speech urged the people to shun the rumour of infighting and quarrels in the ACN house, urging the people to work towards reconciling aggrieved members.

Governor Oshiomhole, in his response, thanked the people for their support and said that without their support, the achievements recorded by his government would have been impossible.

He said beyond the physical developments recorded in the state, “one important thing that we have achieved is that never again will one man dictate the politics of Edo State. Our people have demonstrated confidence; they’ve demonstrated awareness, all we need to do is to grow this awareness.
