No fewer than 22communities from Delta state have alleged manipulation by Nigerian Agip Oil Limited located at Gbragbene Deep ‘A’ location over compensation on Oil wells situated on 500 hectares of land within Bomadi and Brutu Local Government Area.

The aggrieved communities who are at loggerheads with themselves and Agip over ownership of the 500 hectares of land, where the Oil Company is currently dredging to pave way for its proposed Oil exploration, lamented that the latter commenced compensating wrong communities, rather than carry out proper consultations with the right communities.

Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved communities at a peace meeting called by minister of Niger Delta, Godsday Orubebe, Chief William Borme of Abiborgbene Community who accused the Oil giant of being economical with the truth, alleged that it (Agip) betrayed an earlier agreement which it entered with his community while carrying out environmental impact assessment of the area.

Chief Bormo who further regretted that his community suffered major loss of lives and properties due to the water pollution which the river dredging has caused them, lamented that such a reputable oil company could be misguided by greedy tenants, who thus, helped it give wrong Judgment of land boundaries.

On his part, Mr. Seribibo J. Ebiyeibo of Abadegbene Community expressed dismay that the oil Firm has failed to show remorse after causing so much havoc to their communities. He said that, they were only giving peace a chance in order not to embarrass President Jonathan who is also the Son of the soil.

‘We are lovers of peace, otherwise we would have taken the laws into our hands and would not have accommodated them. We have chosen the pact of dialogue rather than take the laws into our hands. This, we are doing because we owe regards for our Son’s dignity’.  Ebiyeibo stated.’
