Sunday Unekwe Onoja, a. k.a Sonoj was born in Kogi state but spent five of his formative years in the city of Kano. Thereafter, he was taken to Jos, plateau state to continue his elementary studies. The 29-year old artiste who holds an OND in mass communication and has been making waves on the gospel music scene has promised to use his God-given talent to preach the good news to the ends of the earth.He is currently in Lagos where he isputting finishing touches to some of his videos.
14 years later, he left Kano for Kaduna, to obtain both his secondary and tertiary certificates.
Sonoj started out eleven years ago as a dancer while serving God in the choral group of the Living faith church (winners’ chapel) kaduna in the year 2001, until he discovered his call and passion for gospel music after the 2004 edition of Shilo in canaanland, otta.
From then he took it up and here he is today and he has since served in various churches, including; the Restoration Bible Church Barnawa,Kaduna state; prayer theatre ministries, New Day Assembly, Christ high commission and has headed various musical groups in Kaduna.
Sonoj professionally began his musical career in 2008 and since then God has used him tremendously to affect and win souls to the glory of God.
In 2009, Sonoj released his debut album in Kaduna state, but later headed to Lagos to seek out greener pastures. Determined and hungry for the next level,he decided to remix about six tracks from his first album to jig-up his sophomore effort and bring about some large-scale soul-winning.
According to him, this (next) album is most anticipated, one that will hit the air waves very soon. Just stay glued to your TV/radio and be informed about what Sonoj has in stock for you”.
Has he won any awards? “Of course, quite a couple,” he mused. Some of them are: the Nigirian Airforce Protestant Church Ikeja,NAFPCI, and Chaplain Complimentary Award during the easter praise with Dr.Panam Parcy Paul. 2011. First award received
Some hit-tracks from the artistes include; Cock crow (remix), When I call on Him, Naija Don Better, Wetin De Happen? Palm Tree and Supreme Deity.
Did he feature any one in the forthcoming album? “Oh, yes,” he gushed. “I have the likes of Psalmos, Buzu, Shodex Timbo of Knight House Entertainment, Don Ado of Emergency records, Gladys, Pastor Jerry Swam Sidi, Oscar amongst others.”
