Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) yesterday announced the results of last Saturday’s local government election with the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) winning the chairmanship of all the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas.
At a press conference to formally declare the results, the commission’s chairman, Justice Abdulfatai Adeyinka ( rtd), said that LASIEC had fulfilled its duty of conducting a free and fair poll, noting that the outcome reflected the results collated by the electoral officers from across the state.
Adeyinka however stated that the commission would conduct a re-run election at Ward H in Mushin LGA where the election was inconclusive.
While the ACN won 355 councillorship wards, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 18, while the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) secured two seats.
Details of the councillorship election showed that the CPC won its two seats at Agege LGA while the PDP recorded its victories from Badagry, Apapa/Iganmu, Agbado Oke-Odo, Lagos Mainland, Ikorodu, Oriade, Shomolu, Yaba, Oshodi/Isolo, Otto Awori, Oriade and Olorunda local councils.
In its reaction, the state chairman of the PDP, Hon. Setonji Koshoedo, rejected the result announced by LASIEC and vowed that the party would go to court to challenge the result.
He said: “We are going to challenge the result at the tribunal because there is no way this injustice will stand. The result contradicts the true reflection and wishes of Lagosians who desired a change.
