U-16 Afrobasket: Nigeria Draw Egypt, Algeria, Mozambique

Nigeria’s U-16 Men and Women national teams have been drawn in the Group-A ahead the 2011 edition of the Africa cadet championship holding in Egypt from July 8 through 17 and July 22-31.

The Nigerian Men side coached by the trio of Coaches Ayinla Johnson, Sani Turi and Abdulrahman Mohammed will have host Egypt, Algeria, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique to contend with when hostilities begin.

The U-16 side will look to better its third place finish in the 2009 edition of the championship held in Maputo, Mozambique, with the team’s head coach, Johnson combing the nooks and cranies of Nigeria for quality talents.

Johnson and Mohammed were at different times captain of Nigeria senior men’s team – D’Tigers with Johnson captaining D’Tigers in 1997 and 1998. Mohammed on the other hand, was captain of D’Tigers to the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Australia. The task to help mould a future team rest on their shoulders.

Group-B of the Cadet Afrobasket for Men comprises; Mali, Congo, South Africa, Angola, Libya and Tunisia. Nigeria also drew Egypt in the Women’s version of the continental cadet championship in Group-A.

Other countries in Group-A for the championship that will compete between July 22 and 31 includes Guinea, Algeria and Mozambique while Group-B is made up of Mali, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo Angola and Tunisia.
