Robbery Gang Invades Court, Sets Colleague Free

Pandemonium broke out at Ihima, in Okehi local government area of Kogi State on Wednesday, when a robbery gang stormed the state High Court in the town, setting free one of their colleagues who was standing trial for kidnapping and armed robbery.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the incident occured in the afternoon, shortly after the accused, Abdulrazaq Nasiru, was ordered to be remanded in prison custody by Justice Moses Gwatana.

It was when the officials of the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) were about taking the suspect in the official Pick-up vehicle to Okene Medium Security Prison, that the hoodlum, who were closely monitoring development around the court, stormed the premises.
Our correspondent further gathered that the gang, numbering about 12 and wielding sophisticated weapons, started firing sporadic gunshots.

The action led to the death of one of the prison officers, while they immediately set their colleague free and fled  in a jiffy.

Security agents, other prison wardens, litigants and court officials, who were caught napping with the ugly development just as they scampered for safety  in the operation that lasted for about 15 minutes.
LEADERSHIP also gathered that although  Gwatana escaped unhurt, his official KIA Sorento Jeep was riddled with bullets, while, the court registrar,  Mr. Bakare Sunday,  was shot in the

ear.

initially involved in armed robbery case, where a man was kidnapped to an unknown destination.
