Three gunmen, suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect yesterday shot a police officer (name withheld) in one of his arms at his Bulunkutu residence of Maiduguri metropolis .
According to an eyewitness, Mallam Haruna Audu, one of the gunmen pulled out a Kalashnikov rifle from a flowing gown and fired two shots at the police officer that pierced through the arm.
Audu explained that the gunmen later fled into the neighbouring wards of Gomari and Pompomari.
The witness said, “As the police officer was coming out of his Bulunkutu Saleke residence, we saw three men walking on foot towards the house and in few a seconds, we heard gunshots and people started fleeing the areas, before men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) arrived the scene of attacks.”
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Mr. Simeone Midenda, said that the officer was coming out from his house when members of Boko Haram shot him in his arm.
He added that that the policeman did not die, saying that he was rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching (UMTH) by JTF for treatment.
He also said that no arrests had been made over the incident.
