Five persons were reported dead on Saturday when a 190 Mercedes Benz car was plunged into Tamburawa bridge along Kano-Zaria road.
The Kano State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Ahmed Kogari told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Saturday that the accident occurred at about 7:30 am when the deceased were travelling from Kano to Zaria.
He said the vehicle with registration number HE 829 ABC was on high speed when it skidded off the road and fell into the bridge.
Kogari confirmed that all the five occupants of the car, including two children, died on the spot.
According to him, all the five corpses have since been deposited at the mortuary at the Murtala Mohammed hospital, Kano.
Kogari, however, warned motorists plying the road to always be careful whenever they were approaching the bridge because the portion of the road was ‘very sloppy’.
“More than 20 persons have lost their lives at this bridge as a result of accident between January and October this tear,” he said.
