First Deepwater basketball club has retained the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) organised Zenith Bank Women Basketball League trophy it won last season. They beat former champion First Bank of Lagos in a keenly contested final by 65-57 points. Sunshine Angels of Akure finished the 2010/2011 season in the 3rd position.
Retaining the trophy, First Deepwater won a giant trophy and a cheque of N1m while First Bank got N750,000 and Sunshine N500,000.
First Deepwater and Nigeria senior national team guard, Nkechi Akashili won a double award as the league highest scorer and Most Valuable Player awards, Sunshine Angels Korede Sosanya won the league’s 3-point award while Delta Force of Asaba forward won the league’s highest rebound.
