The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said it procured and installed eight new 60MVA, 132/33kV power transformers at the cost of N1.5 billion in the 1st and 2nd quarters of 2011.
The transformers according to the company, has been commissioned and installed in various transmission stations nationwide in its effort to improve the capacity and reliability of its transmission grid network.
Electricity supply in the affected States has been significantly improved as the transformers have increased transformation capacity on the 132kV network by 340MVA, a statement by the company’s Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs, Dave Ifabiyi, said.
The eight new 60MVA, 132/33kV power transformers LEADERSHIP learnt, has already been energised in various transmission stations which include the Port-Harcourt town transmission station, Rivers State, Itu, Akwa-Ibom State, and Katsina in Katsina State.
Others are Ayede, Oyo State, Birinin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Abakiliki, Ebonyi State and Kaduna town in Kaduna State, as well as Benin, Edo State.
It was also gathered that two of the new 60MVA, 132/33kV transformers were installed in the Port-Hacourt t and Itu transmission stations in the 1st quarter of the year, increasing the capacity of both stations by 47.5MVA and 45MVA respectively.
Installation and commissioning works of the other six transformers, being the second batch of transformer installations, carried out in the 2nd quarter of the year were completed in May, in various transmission stations including Katsina, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Edo, Oyo and Kebbi States, with the capacity in each of the State increasing with about 30MVA to 60MVA.
“TCN has continued to enhance the capacity and capability of its 330kV and 132kV Sub-stations as well as its 330kV and 132kV route length lines. The company will soon take delivery of additional 11 numbers of 60MVA and six 10MVA power transformers, which would be installed in various locations in the country, to further boost evacuation capacity of the transmission grid,” Ifabiyi said.
