Suspected armed robbers yesterday attacked the residence of Mr Isiaka Olorunyomi, the Caretaker Chairman, Odigbo Local Government Council of Ondo State, killing his security guard in the process.
Olorunyomi, who confirmed the attack, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Odigbo in Ondo State that about 10 suspected robbers stormed his house at about 12.50 a.m. and shot the security guard.
He said, ``They killed Sunday, he was my gateman; he came out with a cutlass to face the robbers and they shot him. The armed robbers broke into my house around 12.50 this morning through one of the side windows and broke so many doors to gain access.
``I gave the robbers N150,000, which enraged them, as they said that the money was not enough. They beat me until I was unconscious and later beat my first wife with an umbrella after they asked her for money and she said she had none.
``It was the timely intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), who came in with his men that made the robbers to flee before the police rushed me to the hospital.’’
The DPO, Mr Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident and said that no arrest had been made, but that investigation into the incident had commenced.
