Where Are The Mighty Men? (2)

God is looking for men like Caleb and Joshua who have the valour to take the gospel to a greater height.  Even at a time when the Israelites thought that all hope was lost, these men continued to preach faith into the lives of the people. They said “Do not rebel against the lord. Do not be afraid of the people of the land. We will swallow them up. The LORD is with us.” Numbers 14:6-9.

Though, they had reasons to entertain fear but because they were matured spiritually, they were bold. If you want to be mighty in the hand of God, you must exterminate the spirit of fear in your life because it has crippled a lot of Christians. The bible recorded that three of the sons of Jesse were among the Israelites who were in the camp, concerning the battle with the Philistines. Then on a certain day, Jesse sent his youngest son David to his brothers. When David arrived at the camp, he saw the humiliation that was confronting the warriors of Israel.
Though he was addressed as a little boy, he did not regard himself as one. David asked the men who were close to him, “What will the man get who kills this Philistine and frees Israel from this disgrace?  After all, who is this heathen Philistine to defy the army of the living God?” They told him what would be done for the man who killed Goliath.1 Samuel 17:26. David did not ask what will be given to the boy but he asked what will be given to the man. He has so much confidence in himself and overcame the spirit of fear.

David made the Israelites triumph over their enemies. How many Christians today are as bold as David? Where are the mighty men who are capable of believing God even when the situation seems impossible?  The bible says, “The righteous are bold as the lion.” Proverbs 28:1.

However, mighty men are discovered and polished.  The bible says, “From the time of John the Baptist, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent taketh it by force. Matthew 11:12. Some people would say, after all, we are not David, Elijah or Joshua. Yes, we are not meant to function the same way but to function uniquely.

When you qualify yourself, God will give you direction.

Mighty men are men who fear God. They are diligent, honest, truthful and hates covetousness. Jesus said, “Verily I say unto you, among them that are born of women, there hath not risen any one greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than him.”  That means, there are greater men here but where are they?

Character
Gideon was the youngest in his father’s house. The bible recorded that the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon and said, “The Lord is with you, “thou man of valour” Judges 6:12. The angel said, “Go in this mind and deliver Israel.”  It means that God was pleased with Gideon’s character. You need to add modesty and courage to the knowledge of God because power without character is dangerous. Samson was an anointed man but he had no character, is not enough to say you are born again, you need to build up characters.

Dependent on God

Job said, all the days of my pilgrimage will I wait till my change come. Learn how to seek God’s direction. Let God be the one giving and not you struggling. The bible says. “Goodness and mercy shall follow me” Psalm 23:6. You shouldn’t be the one running after goodness and mercy.  “They that wait on the lord shall renew their strength”
Wisdom

Money is a defence and wisdom is a defence but the superiority of wisdom is that it gives life.  Elijah asked Elisha, what do you want? And Elisha said “I need the double of your anointing”. Same happened in the case of Solomon, when many would have asked for money or properties.
