Police Foil Kidnap Attempt On Monarch

The Imo State Police Command has recorded another feat in a space of one week when the cammand foiled, yesterday, the attempted kidnap of a royal father,  Eze Onukaogu Uchendu of  Ulakwo, Obube in Ngor Okpala Local government area.

Briefing  journalists in Owerri, the  Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Mohammed Abubakar represented  by ACP in charge of operations, Celestine Okoye, told journalists that the royal father was rescued  from the hands of the kidnappers after a tip-off by a source  in the area.

According to Okoye, the monarch was on his way to his palace at about 10:15 pm when he was accosted by the hoodlums who pushed his driver out of his car before taking him to an unknown destination.
Fortunately, he stressed, the distress call by their informant  propelled  the police  into action, resulting in a gun duel with the kidnappers.

The operation which lasted for over an hour, he said led to  the instant killing of one of the kidnappers by the police  while others escaped.

In addition to the rescue of the monarch by the police, Okoye said that  AK-47 riffles were recovered from them as well as six magazines and 168 rounds  of live ammunition.

In a related development, the command also reported the arrest of a notorious robbery suspect at Bishop’s Court, Aladinmma, Owerri while attempting to dispossess the people of the area of their valuables.
