The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Olajumoke Akinjide, has urged the newly-inducted 2011 Batch C corps members in the FCT to be security conscious and to report any case of threat against them to the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The minister gave the charge yesterday, while addressing the corps members during their inauguration at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Kubwa.
She advised them to be their brothers’ keeper and watch over themselves, assuring them that the administration had put enough security measures in place to ensure their safety.
Akinjide said: “I wish to assure you that security measures have been put in place to ensure that no harm comes to you in the cause of your service to the nation. I urge you all to be security conscious and to report any case of threat to NYSC management and security agents.”
She further advised the corps members to be discipline, bearing in mind that they are the future leaders of the country. This was just as she noted that the activities lined up for the orientation would enhanced the life time contribution of the youth to national development particularly the leadership and entrepreneurship training.
Meanwhile, the FCT, NYSC coordinator, Mrs Linda Amugo stated that 3,978 corps members, comprising 1,850 male and 2,128 females had been posted to the FCT for the exercise.
She said the programme was an important phase of the one year mandatory national service, during which time the corps members will be formally introduced to the ideals of the scheme and also empowered to overcome the onerous challenges of the service year.
