There may still be a fourth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. This is due to the bitter ending to their third meeting in Las Vegas on November 12, 2011’s night which had promoter Bob Arum say he would use a rematch clause in the contract.
“I am going to try to make this rematch in May 2012. I am bound and determined to find a definitive winner once and for all,” Arum said.
That’s fine with Pacquiao. “I’m all for it,” he said further.
Pacquiao, a world champion in a record eight weight divisions, denied Marquez a title in a fourth division when he won the bout on a controversial majority decision. “The fans are fans of Marquez. I understand how they feel. But I blocked a lot of his punches. He’s a counter-puncher and he head-butted me a lot,” Pacquiao said about the crowd’s reaction to the result.
Marquez’s shouts that he was robbed again could set the stage for a fourth fight. “The second robbery of the two losses. This was the worst, we won with clearer punches,” Marquez said through a translator.
“What can I say? It was a real close fight,” Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, said.
Pacquiao, considered the best boxer, pound-for-pound in the world, has been unable to make a deal for a mega-fight against Floyd Mayweather, but outside of Marquez he has dispatched most rivals in overpowering fashion.
Pacquiao retains his WBO welterweight title with a narrow and somewhat controversial points’ victory after two of the three Judges ruled in his favour. Below are the final score recorded from the fight.
