The tussle for the leadership of the of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra took a new turn, when on Friday, at Awka the state capital, factions of the party engaged each other in a fight for supremacy.

A well advertised stakeholders meeting of the party convened by the aviation minister, Princess Stella Oduah, to settle the leadership crisis in the state, LEADERSHIP SUNDAY  learnt, worsened issues, when a court order obtained by another faction forced the meeting to hold very briefly in the morning, instead of the initially fixed noon.

The order, it was gathered, was obtained by factional chairman of the party, Chief Ken Emeakayi. When the Chief Benji Udeozor-led faction, rumoured to be run by the Uba brothers, got wind of it, they hurriedly met to avoid being dispersed by police officers.

In another development, factional chairman of the party in the state, Chief Ken Emeakayi, also convened another meeting with party members loyal to him, as a way of preventing them from attending the meeting by the other faction.

In the meeting, Emeakayi handed party flags to chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the party in Anambra State, claiming the action was part of preparations for the local government election in the state, though the date for the elections is yet to be announced by the Anambra State Independent electoral commission.

Publicity secretary of the Emeakayi-led faction, Ngozi Agudosi, told our correspondent that the rally which held at Ogbugbankwa square, Awka, was organised to revalidate the membership of the party in the state and also hand flags to candidates of the party in the local government election, as a way to put end the inconclusive primary election which held earlier in the year.

Agudosi said the authenticity of the Emeakayi-led faction could not be in doubt, as an Abuja High Court had declared so.

“Didn’t you see what happened today? They (Udeozor’s faction) were dispersed by police officers on the order of a court, because what they were doing there is illegal. This is the truly authentic PDP in Anambra State,” he said.
