NIMC Partners NOA On New ID Cards

Submitted by LEADERSHIP EDITORS on November 23, 2011 - 5:14am

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has entered into a collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to sensitize Nigerians on the issuance of the new national identity cards.

NIMC director-general, Chris Onyemenam, made this known yesterday in Abuja during a courtesy visit to his NOA counterpart , Alhaji Idi Farouk, at the NOA headquarters.

Onyemenam stated that the collaboration would enhance the objective of reaching out to citizens in the urban and rural areas as the exercise was expected to commence soon.

The DG said, “The previous card had some limitations and people do not appreciate the difference between mere issuance of an ID card and the process of identity management. The new card is aimed at implementing a digital platform that could aid in assessing the citizen’s identity even without the card.”

In his remark, the NOA boss pledged that his agency was in full support of the exercise, and urged Nigerians to support the cause, in view of the security challenges facing the country.
