Globacom has thrown its weight behind this year’s edition of The President Cup Golf Championship which tees off at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja from December 13 to 18, 2011.
The President Cup, organised by the Nigerian Golf Federation (NGF), is an annual golf tournament played in honour of the sitting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and is the most prestigious in the calendar of the NGF.
Globacom is the major sponsor of the tournament which will bring in the best pro and amateur players from within and outside the country. A joint statement by the Federation and Globacom stated that this year’s tournament will be keenly contested with hundreds of golfers vying for top honours during the week-long event.
Professional golfers are expected from Ghana, Senegal, Togo and the host country Nigeria while only Nigeria will field top amateur players. According to the organisers of the event, this year’s event is particularly significant because it will be the first since President Goodluck Jonathan won election and was subsequently inaugurated into office. “This is the biggest golf tournament in the country and Globacom’s sponsorship has boosted the profile of the event. We are optimistic that this will be the best in annals of the event” says Moses Anabui, Technical Director of the Nigeria Golf Federation.
